Meeting notes

(by Bob, Kenneth)

Quick introduction by new people

  • Bart Oldeman - McGill University, Digital Research Alliance Canada (ComputeCanada)
  • Tore Larsen - Simula, Norway

EESSI-related meetings in last month

(see slides)

Progress update per EESSI layer

Filesystem layer

(see slides)

Some workarounds exist for the bug with in-place updates on CVMFS, e.g. using symlinks or marking files for direct I/O, but it looks like a proper fix is actively being worked on.

Compatibility layer

(see slides)

  • Most of the security issues don't really seem to apply to EESSI, as everything is running in userspace. But still it would be good to keep up-to-date, and have the right procedures in place for quickly updating packages.
Software layer
  • (Bart Oldeman) CUDA compat lib is installed in private ComputeCanada repository, and is used automatically when needed
    • quite similar to our approach where script downloads & installs compat lib when needed
Build-and-deploy bot

(see slides)

2021.12 version of pilot repository + outlook to next pilot repository

(see slides)

  • (Bob) Does archspec already support the Ampere Altra CPUs?
    • (Kenneth) doesn't look like it, but we don't need it for building the stack (we can override it), and it can probably be added easily
