Maintenance schedule

This page describes maintenance intervals for the tank components and systems. Note that it is not exhaustive, nor has it been strictly adhered to. Also see the maintenance procedures and the maintenance, repairs, changes log.

Daily | Perform walk-around inspection to ensure no foreign objects or debris are in the path of the cable carrier, linear guides, or drive belt. | |
Weekly | 2014.06.01 by PB | Wipe linear shafts with a rag and light oil (e.g., WD-40) to prevent corrosion and excess dust accumulation. |
Check for and apply Windows updates on the tow tank PC. Note this is not done automatically. | ||
Run Dolphin cleaning robot in the tank. Start in late afternoon and let run overnight. Remove all dangling equipment in tank. Nothing may be in the water. | ||
Monthly | Sweep/clean/organize control platform. | |
Vacuum cable carrier tray. | ||
Vacuum timing belt housing. | ||
Yearly | 2014.03.06 by PB | Grease carriage linear bearings with PTFE enhanced molybdenum disulfide grease or equivalent. A grease gun with appropriate grease is generally kept on a shelf at the tow tank control platform. |
Calibrate transducers and instrumentation. | ||
Check all fasteners for tightness and visually inspect for signs of yielding/failure. | ||

Inspect upper belt sliding surface and replace if necessary. This should last more than 10,000 tows. See issue #70 for details. |
