YZ traverse The YZ traverse, originally built for positioning a Vectrino+ ADV probe, has the ability to position instruments or objects in the tank with a cross-tank (y-coordinate) and vertical (z-coordinate) range of 3.05 and 1.52 meters, respectively. It is constructed from 80/20 extrusions and two Velmex BiSlide linear stages, the y-axis being belt driven and the z screw driven. Both are actuated via stepper motor, which can be driven either by a Velmex controller or by the tank's main motion controller.

The y- and z-axes have cable carriers to prevent cable tangling during long automated experiments.
