Wavemaker operation

This page describes the operation of the wavemaker, which can generate regular and random waves. Before attempting to use the wavemaker please read the general operating guidelines.

Turning everything on

The following is a quick step-by-step guide to getting the wavemaker system powered-on and ready to operate:

  1. The beach needs to be in the water before the operation of the wavemaker. See beach operation for more details.
  2. Turn on the 5th disconnect from the left (TODO: these should be labeled), then press the black button on the wave maker water pump on/off switch, shown in Figure 1. This should start the hydraulic motor that operates the wave maker.
  3. Turn the pressure release valve counterclockwise located above the hydraulic motor located at the behind the wave maker.

Using the MakeWaves application

Note: This application is still in development, and has not been validated against experimental measurements, so use with caution.

To start the application, click the MakeWaves icon () on the Windows taskbar, select the desired wave parameters, and click "Start".

Shutting everything down

  1. Stop and close any open wavemaking software.
  2. Open the ball valve to depressurize the hydraulic cylinder. Note that this may be loud.
  3. Press the red power button on the hydraulic motor power box.
  4. Switch off the power disconnect that is 5th from the left.
