Optical Positioning Instrumentation and Evaluation (OPIE)

The OPIE system consists of a camera and a laptop. The laptop acquires images using the software Streampix and calculates motion time histories using the UNH-developed matlab script OPIE.m. This gear, with step-by-step instructions, is kept in a black pelican case.

An instructional video (using version 8.24) for buoy tracking can be found here.

Targets should consist, at a minimum, of dark-colored dots maybe a centimeter in diameter. (That will vary depending on how far away your camera is). Colored bullseyes around each dot (different colors for each dot would make tracking that much better) improve tracking.
