build: notify via slack when review-wanted #55102
build: notify via slack when review-wanted #55102

I have noticed we don't have a usual workflow for review-wanted PRs. So, in other words the label is not useful as it should be. This commit notify via Slack (#node-core) whenever this label is placed either on an issue or in a PR.

It doesn't make sense to trigger that on issues.

Although, shouldn't we instead add a job to .github/workflows/comment-labeled.yml
instead of creating a new workflow?

With that system, the PR still has really one shot to gather reviewers attention (I guess one could remove and re-add the label, but at this point I would rather manually ping the Slack channel). IMO a cron job that list all the PRs with the label would be more useful.
Also I'm not sure it's the correct approach, it gives triggers and collaborators an even greater imbalance to get their PRs reviewed, and does not really help external contributors, even though external contributors are more likely to not have the appropriate relationships to ask for reviews. Maybe a better approach would be to not use a label, but also I reckon it would not be as straight forward to set it up.
Why not? Sometimes there are issues (confirmed-bugs) that do not receive feedback for a while and depending on its impact it will be very useful to receive a notification via slack.
How will the cronjob be different from a "one shot" approach? If the cronjob keeps spamming issues/PRs to the #node-core, people will eventually just ignore it. It's also bad since it will look for old issues/PRs that were tagged with this label. My intention in opening this PR is to gather reviewers' attention just once. People can always look for the "review-wanted" label if they are looking to give this kind of help.
I don't think it will cause any harm to have it since we are just automating things, and the workflow will remain unchanged. |
@aduh95 I believe your review is non-blocking, so I'll land this PR. If I'm understanding it wrong, feel free to block the PR (or we can eventually revert it if you don't see that in time) |
