Notes
SCORM vs cmi5 comparison Document
The group continued to work on a SCORM vs cmi5 comparison document. More refinement was done on the detailed comparison table. The following changes were made:
- Remove the entry for "Scalable Data Size" as it was redundant.
- Rename "Centralized Content" to "Distributed Content" (and modified definition).
- Modified definition for "Data Access", "Data Readability", and Data "Portability"
cmi5 systems migration discussion
Steve Foreman, who is researching a book on learning technology, came to group to ask how industry adoption of the cmi5 specification would affect the LMS migration process. This is an interesting topic since organizations typically change LMS systems approximately every 5 years. The group agreed that migration between cmi5 compliant LMS systems would be somewhat easier than SCORM especially if system owners opted to store their content externally from their LMSs. Storing content external to the LMS is something that cmi5 allows for but does not require. The group agreed that content storage/hosting external to the LMS is a best practice for cmi5 content.
